SUBJECT: SUMMIT STREET MILL AND OVERLAY PROJECT
The next phase of the Federal Aid Project for street and sidewalk improvements on Summit Street will begin Thursday morning, July 1, 2010, with the milling of Summit Street between Georgia Avenue and Higgins Drive. Motorists traveling on Summit Street and adjacent streets are advised to use caution as they will encounter blocked lanes, construction workers and equipment. Additionally, they should follow the directions of the flag detail. Weather permitting, the milling should be completed by close of business Friday, July 2, 2010, with the overlay set to begin on Tuesday, July 6, 2010.

SUBJECT: STREET CLOSURES
Summit Street between New York and Georgia Avenues will be closed to traffic on Monday, June 21, 2010, from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. for installation of guard rails. On Tuesday, June 22, 2010, beginning at 7:00 a.m., Georgia Avenue between Summit Street and Railroad Blvd. will be closed for installation of guard rails. Work is expected to be completed by the close of the business day.

SUBJECT: RESURFACING OF THE PEARL RIVER AVENUE AND LOCUST STREET INTERSECTION - PHASE 2
Phase 1 of the construction project to resurface the intersection of Pearl River Avenue and Locust Street is in the final stages of completion and Phase 2 will begin Monday morning, June 14, 2010. The northbound lane of South Locust Street from Avenue D to Pearl River Avenue will be reopened to traffic. Northbound traffic on South Locust will only be able to turn right or left at Pearl River Avenue. North Locust Street between Avenue E and Pearl River will be closed to through traffic.
The eastbound lane of Pearl River Avenue will reopen and become a two-way traffic lane. Westbound traffic on Pearl River will be diverted to the eastbound lane until the construction zone ends at Chestnut Street. At which point, normal traffic flow will resume.
The Locust Street/Pearl River Avenue intersection is a 4-way traffic stop. Motorists are cautioned to be alert to construction zone conditions and follow the directions of flag persons. SUBJECT: CLOSURE OF NEHI CIRCLE RAILROAD CROSSING
The Mississippi Department of Transportation will be placing temporary barriers at the Nehi Circle railroad crossing on Thursday, April 15, 2010, at 8:00 a.m. This action is being taken after the Mississippi Transportation Commission voted to approve the permanent closure and abolishment of the Liberty White/Nehi Circle crossing. Permanent barriers will be placed at a later date.

The City of McComb has awarded
the Federal Aid Project for street and sidewalk
improvements on the Pearl River
Avenue and Locust Street intersection, Summit Street,
and South Magnolia Street to
Dickerson & Bowen, Inc.
The following
improvements are included in each of the following locations:
South Magnolia Street: Milling, overlaying, and pavement markings of South Magnolia Street
between Pearl River
Avenue and Highway 98.
Summit Street: Milling and overlaying; reconstruction and addition of
concrete sidewalk;
pavement markings.
Pearl River Avenue and Locust Street Intersection: Milling and overlaying
a section of Pearl River
Avenue and Locust Street; removing and
reconstructing asphalt
pavement using concrete pavement at the intersection;
pavement markings.
Contract time began on the
project on March 1, 2010, with a completion date of June
25,2010. Work may be in
progress on any day that weather conditions allow.
Project construction signs are
in place. The public is advised to use extreme caution
near and through the
construction zone.
The public may encounter
one-lane traffic (of short duration) on Summit Street, Pearl
River Avenue and Locust Street
intersection and South Magnolia Street project areas.
The one-lane section will be
controlled by flag persons.
The Pearl River Avenue location
will have detours during this operation. Signs will be
placed along the detour route
prior to the operation beginning.
